BOOTS has limited the sale of hand sanitiser to prevent those worried about coronavirus from panic buying.

A member of staff at the chemist in Brighton’s North Street said customers can only buy two bottles each.

And she said the shop had sold out of the product earlier.

Many shoppers were visiting Boots expressly to get hold of hand gel.

One man wearing a mask said he had come to stock up.

Leon Collacott, 45, from Portslade, said: “I’ve just been to Boots to get a load of anti-bacterial handwash.

“On public transport, a lot of people are coughing and people are spluttering on the bus.

“They’re spreading germs everywhere.

“I don’t know whether they’ve got coronavirus or not, but I want to be safe.”

A spokeswoman for Boots said: “We have seen an increase in sales of hand sanitisers but we still have stock available in our warehouses for stores and online, with more stock arriving in stores each day.

“I can confirm that there is currently a limit of two hand sanitisers per customer to ensure as many people as possible have access to them.

“We are also giving customers advice on how they can prevent catching a virus.”
