A WAITER has been arrested and charged in connection with a modern slavery investigation.
A man was detained after a suspected kidnapping in Ditchling Road, Brighton, at 1pm yesterday.
Officers attended the scene, identified and found a vehicle which had been involved in the incident, and arrested a man.
Zakaria El Alami of North Road in Brighton has been charged with requiring a person to perform forced labour under the Modern Slavery Act and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm following enquiries.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Lewes Crown Court on April 3.
The victim, a local man in his 20s, was supported by specialist safeguarding officers and has been placed into the National Referral Mechanism.
