A MAN who crashed after speeding and drink-driving has received a suspended prison sentence.

About 8.45pm on 20 December, police were called to a collision between a black Peugeot 206 and a white Ford mini-cab in Pevensey Road, Eastbourne.

The Peugeot driver was identified as Kieron Church, 29, a carpenter, of Beauchamp Road, St Leonards.

After failing a roadside breath test, he was arrested and charged with driving with 92mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system and dangerous driving.

In police interview, Church admitted to driving at 40-45mph in the 30mph limit, and drinking four or five pints of beer earlier that day. He confessed he knew should not have driven.

At Hastings Magistrates’ Court on 17 February, he was sentenced to eight weeks’ imprisonment – suspended for 12 months – and disqualified from driving for 24 months. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £122 victim surcharge.

Church is among 46 motorists who have so far been convicted as part of Surrey Police and Sussex Police’s Christmas crackdown on drink and drug-drivers.
