A PAIR of roast dinner fanatics have joined forces to deliver Britain’s favourite meal to your door.

Glen Halsey and Mike Matthews are promising “the best roast you have ever eaten” as they throw open the doors to their new Seven Dials takeaway, RoastHost, yesterday.

The duo have worked together for more than ten years in kitchens across the South East.

Now their latest venture aims to provide all the best elements of the much-loved meal with none of the hassle, with the meals available for collection or home delivery.

The pair explained: “It will offer all the quality and ease of restaurant or pub dining with the comfort of eating at home.”

Glen said: “A roast is a deceptively traditional dish that has now become a platform for some of the most creative chefs in the world.

“We can’t wait to bring our version of this national treasure to Brighton and Hove. RoastHost is a modest, quick service food hub with an ambition to become a haven for hungry, thrifty and smart eaters, whether locals or visitors to the area.”

Under their “keep it simple” ideology, Glen and Mike will prepare, cook and serve all meals themselves using only free range and organic ingredients.

Glen said: “We have put a lot of thought, care and craftsmanship into the traditional British Roast.

“We want to elevate it to something very special.

“Everything we serve will be ethically sourced and the idea is to encourage everyone from students, busy workers and tourists to come home to a roast.”

Glen said the menu will, largely, be unchanging and aims to do the basics well, offering Sunday roast staples such as marinated chicken, beef and pork as well as vegetarian and vegan options including cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire puddings and “the most crispy roast potatoes in town”.

Mike said: “We know that, being in Brighton, the vegetarian and vegan options need to be as good as the meat ones.

“We loved creating these exciting and creative plant-based dishes that will change seasonally to reflect the availability of ingredients.

“For traditionalists, our RoastHost rotisserie chicken will be crispy skinned, lusciously tender meat that is full of flavour.

“This is ideally accompanied by some of our sides like our cauliflower cheese, heritage carrots and the best, most crispy roast potatoes in town.”

Knowing their market, the pair have also made every effort to keep their operation sustainable.

All packaging used will be eco-friendly and they have made it their mission to not use plastic.

RoastHost opened yesterday at 84a Dyke Road in Brighton.

It will be open between noon and 9pm from Thursday to Saturday and from noon to 7pm on Sundays.

Food will be available to take away for walk-ins, click and collect and delivery, with the business partnering with both Just Eat and Deliveroo to send their meals to customers across the city.
