AN EX-RAVER who became a street artist at 52 became a “giddy schoolboy” when he finally met his DJ hero.

Sean Lyons, now 55, received an unexpected visit from Fatboy Slim while painting a mural of the big beat legend in Lewes Road, Brighton.

The painter, known as GlimmerTwin32, said he was blown away when the DJ, who lives in Hove, asked if he could see his work.

“I was just finishing the mural on Lewes Road I’d been commissioned to do,” Sean said.

“Then I got a text saying ‘Hello, it’s Norman, I’m coming down’.

“Somebody sent the mural to him. It was an honour for me.

“He’s a lovely fella, a really really nice guy.

“The people who commissioned the mural didn’t know he was coming down.

“He went up to the intercom and said ‘Hello, it’s Norman Cook’.

“The woman went ‘No way’ and he said ‘Yes way’. It was very out of the blue.”

Sean said he had been to at least a dozen Fatboy Slim concerts in his lifetime.

His favourite song of Norman’s is 2000 hit Weapon of Choice.

“Back in the day I was dancing to his music on the beach all day,” he said. “I was quite active in the rave days. It all seems so long ago now. It was just nice to get that feedback from him.

“He’s one of Brighton’s greatest adopted sons.

“It was funny, he talked about the picture I’d used as a reference for the mural.

“He said he’d been sitting in the Nevada desert for two hours and then the photographer told him to look like a DJ.”

There are a few other musicians street artist Sean would like to paint if he had the chance?

“I’d love to paint Bowie but meeting him is a bit out of the question,” he said.

“Maybe Mick and Keith from the Stones. But they might be out of the question for different reasons. I’ve always wanted to do Iggy Pop, I’d love to meet crazy Iggy.”
