A LABOUR MP said he “probably” has coronavirus after exhibiting symptoms in self-isolation.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle was tested for disease, called Covid-19, on Thursday after coming into contact with a confirmed case.

The Brighton Kemptown MP said he is exhibiting some signs of the virus, but has not yet received the results of the test, which were due back today.

He said: “My test was sent to the Royal Sussex, but there was no capacity so it was then sent to Southampton.

“I think I have probably got it, but I have no idea.

“I feel it comes and goes in waves, I will be pottering around the house and feel fine, then I’m hit with hot flush.

“I have these pains in my back, a tickly throat and I cough when I laugh.

“The serious truth is that it could just be the flu – I’ve not had breathing difficulties in that sense, however it could transform tomorrow – we have no idea and I don’t know where the test is.”

Mr Russell-Moyle, who became the first MP to reveal his HIV status in the Commons in 2018, said he was in contact with other MPs shortly before he self-isolated.

He said: “I was in a meeting in a small room with seven other MPs the moment the symptoms came on and I went to self-isolate.

“Some of those MPs have made the decision to self-isolate.”

If Mr Russell-Moyle tests positive for the virus, he will become the country’s third MP to do so.

Today, the Prime Minister told people to stop gathering in pubs and restaurants in the latest advice to the public.

Boris Johnson said that the rapid spread of coronavirus is now underway, and cases could double every week.

Mr Russell-Moyle, who is keeping up with the latest developments from his home, is calling on the government to provide assurances to business and workers.

He said: “I was just listening the French Prime Minister’s announcement where he said, right at the top of the speech, that no business will be left out of pocket and no person would be out of work.

“We have not heard that from our government.

“Our city on relies on tourism, we have music, theatre, the arts and language schools.

“This is crippling and could destroy people.”

He added that his party were due to propose plans in an “emergency bill" for rent and mortgage relief to help people through the growing crisis.
