A DJ has appealed to Twitter followers about whether his cafe should remain open in light of the Coronavirus spreading.

Fatboy Slim, also known as Norman Cook, who owns the Big Beach Cafe by Hove Lagoon in Kingsway, Hove, posted a video on the cafe’s Twitter account in which he asked followers what they think he should do.

In the Twitter post he said: “We have a message for you and we’d like to know what you think.

“Do we close completely?

“Do we stay open as normal until we are possibly forced to shut?

“Do we operate a limited service of takeaway only – especially as we have lots of outside seating?

“Please tell us your thoughts.”

In response, many followers favoured the takeaway option.

One Twitter user wrote: “I think the takeaway option is a great idea.

“Families will still want to play at the lagoon and having coffee, cold drinks, basic menus, snacks and ice cream will be very welcome.”

Another said: “Would be great if you do stay open for takeaways.

“Us parents will need a coffee shop open whilst the kids play outside.”

Another person added: “Limited service but stay open please.

“Love the fresh air and there’s plenty of space to keep distance.”

Some Twitter users suggested using card payments only to prevent germs spreading through the handling of cash.

One person said: “In the interests of your health and also keeping your brand alive, take away only seems the best choice.

“I’d add taking only card and avoiding cash payments too.

Another said: “Yes, do takeaway (and delivery?) – but do not use the outside seating, it defeats the purpose. And as others said, card only – no cash.

“Well done for unilaterally considering this, rather than waiting for this government leadership to enforce it.”
