THE London to Brighton Bike Ride has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) event, which sees thousands cycle from Clapham Common in London to Madeira Drive on Brighton sea front, will not be taking place in 2020.
The ride was due to take place on Sunday, June 21, but organisers say they are looking at securing a date in 2021 instead.
Emma Day, London to Brighton Bike Ride Event Manager said: “Along with the rest of the UK, we have been closely monitoring the escalating Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, as well as the Government guidance relating to mass gatherings and social distancing.
“At a time of such uncertainty and worry, we feel that it is only right that we do not go ahead.
“The safety of our riders, supporters, staff and volunteers was at the forefront of our decision to cancel and we, alongside everyone involved, are so disappointed that this event will now no longer take place.
"We are currently working with all of our stakeholders in order to secure our 2021 date.”
