The fining of one of their cars was spotted by a neighbour who remarked: “Wouldn’t you think the traffic warden would have the common decency to not book them in the current circumstances?”

“When challenged the traffic warden said, ‘I’m only doing my job’, well so are the Carelink guys - trying to keep people connected and safe especially now.”

This comes amid a growing coronavirus crisis which disproportionately affects vulnerable groups.

When questioned about the incident by The Argus, Brighton and Hove City Council said it is now considering relaxing its parking rules.

A spokesman said: “We appreciate this is a difficult time for people who are caring for others.

“We are reviewing the rules to see if we can relax them for people using professional carers badges to park.

“The badge currently allows parking on double yellow lines for up to two hours but not on school keep clear zig zag lines.

“Details of how to appeal a parking fine can also be found on our website: www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/parking.”

  • The coronavirus Sussex Crisis Fund has been set up to help those affected by the pandemic. The Argus’s charity and American Express have each donated £50,000 to kick-start the appeal. Grants will usually be for up to £5,000.
