AN INJURED seal suspected to have a broken flipper is stranded on a beach.

The large adult creature was spotted on Hove beach at 1pm today.

One bystander was walking along the promenade with his daughter when he noticed the seal.

"My neighbour said she had seen a seal on the beach but it had swam off to the broken pier," he said.

"But we walked down and we could see it from the promenade, it looked like a fully-grown adult.

"It was a big old thing but it looked like it had a broken flipper.
"The two RSPCA officers who were standing with it mentioned the lifeguard was on his way with a quad bike."

Though a small crowd gathered to see the seal, they took the Government's social distancing measures seriously.

"I suppose it's a good thing there were only ten of them," he said.

"They were taking the two-metre rule very seriously."

The RSPCA and British Divers Marine Life Rescue have been contacted for comment.
