BACK in May 2018, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs asked Julian Glover to review our protected countryside (national parks and Areas of Natural Beauty).

He wrote to me as I had suggested that more of Sussex needed protecting.

One of my main areas is the first part of north Sussex, taking in the villages of Plaistow, Kirdford and Loxwood.

Plaistow has been described as a typical English village. Kirdford was the home of our glass-making industry and Loxwood is the home of the Wey and Arun canal.

Another area that must be protected is the area from the A24 to Hurstpierpoint and the A272 and A283 villages such as Partridge Green and Twineham.

Again a superb area of our countryside.

There are a lot of houses and flats being built and I feel that Sussex is doing more than its fair share of dealing with the housing crisis.

I hope the Government will make the areas I have mentioned Areas of Natural Beauty.
