POLICE forces from three stations were called to reports of youths fighting.

A 16-year-old boy from Peacehaven was arrested on suspicion of public order offences as officers attended the incident near the Meridian Centre.

On Saturday evening police had received a series of calls from concerned residents who said a group of youths were “causing a disturbance” near the shopping centre.

Officers attended the scene and “encouraged them to move on, away from the shopping complex”.

But patrolling officers later found the group had just moved to a nearby residential street.

Several additional units from Brighton and Eastbourne, as well as Peacehaven, were called to the scene after receiving reports of youths fighting.

A 16-year-old boy was detained and has been referred to the Youth Offending Service.

Following the incident, officers also made the decision to put a Section 35 dispersal order in place for 24 hours to stop the group of youths causing a disturbance in any other area of Peacehaven.

Prevention sergeant Amy Mason said: “Anti-social behaviour can be so distressing for members of the public and residents in the area, and it will not be tolerated by the force.

“We will continue to carry out high-visibility patrols in areas where anti-social behaviour is known to occur, and disperse groups of people identified as being involved in any criminal acts.”
