AN IMMIGRATION detainee served food to others before coming down with flu-like symptoms, a court heard.

Human rights group Detention Action told the High Court one person detained at Brook House immigration removal centre near Gatwick reportedly served food before falling ill.

The centre is home to dozens of immigrants awaiting deportation.

The group’s legal bid on Wednesday to force the Home Office to release all immigration detainees due to the coronavirus pandemic was rejected by judges.

A Home Office lawyer said it had taken all reasonsable steps to protect detainees.
