A MICRO brewery has appeared in a popular television series about how different food and drinks are made.

Lost Pier Brewing, one of a collective of microbrewers based at the Missing Link Brewing site at Chiddinglye Farm near East Grinstead, features in the latest series of Food Unwrapped on Channel 4.

Presenter Andi Oliver met brewer Dan Gale to learn about what makes a cloudy beer hazy, and to find out why these beers are becoming popular again.

Dan demonstrated the brewing process for Andi and explained that the proteins found in oats and wheat are what contribute to the beer’s hazy appearance.

He said: “Polyphenols, which are naturally occurring in hops, oxidise during the fermentation process, which also adds to the beer’s cloudiness.”

Andi also joined Missing Link Brewing owner Jeremy Cook to taste a range of the brewery’s new own-brand IPAs.

During the show, Jeremy said: “Cloudy beer gives you a creaminess.

“It’s not like we’re setting out to make it cloudy – the cloudiness is a by-product of us looking for that juiciness and freshness, and a beautiful depth of flavour.”

Missing Link Brewing, which has its own bar and tap room on site and supplies beers to a range of Sussex retailers, has state of the art equipment and is a base for like-minded brewers to create modern craft beers.

Jeremy said it was great to be able to showcase the microbrewery on Food Unwrapped.

He said: “We were thrilled to open our doors and demonstrate the production of craft beer to viewers nationwide.

“We’ve received a fantastic reaction from friends and members of the public who have seen us on the programme.

“We look forward to extending a warm welcome to visitors to our brewery and Tap Room when we can reopen again.”

Missing Link Brewing micro brewery features in Episode Two of Series 18 of Food Unwrapped on Channel 4.
