A PATISSERIE is planning to offer home-baking kits in a bid to adapt to a challenging new market.

Real Pâtisserie in Brighton today launches a home delivery service so customers can get their hands on its artisan loaves.

Next in the pipeline are parcels to cater for the rise in home-baking – an increasingly popular hobby as people in isolation find new ways to occupy their time.

The company’s founder Alastair Gourlay said: “Like so many food producers across the country, we’ve been looking at ways to contribute to the community effort in the current crisis.

"With most restaurants, takeaway and pubs closed, we want to make a small difference.

“Our bakeries are still open, but many people are now unable to do their basic food shopping: vulnerable people who have been told to self-isolate, parents with young children, or key workers whose shifts clash with the shop opening times.

"They will benefit from having our delicious artisan bread delivered straight to their houses.

"It freezes well, and neighbours could share deliveries.

“Hopefully, from April 7, we’re looking to start deliveries of flour, yeast and sour starter, along with recipe cards.

"We’re hoping that the smells and fun of home baking will help lift spirits.”
