BRIGHTON seafront seems to be a big issue for people. That it’s too busy and they feel unsafe.

For a few days now I have been proposing on social media a “keep left” idea. If everyone is walking in the same direction then it’s much easier to social distance.

No need to dodge out of the way of people coming towards you. Everyone only has to think about who is in front of them.

Joggers and runners would have to wait until it was safe to overtake just as car drivers do in traffic. Similarly walk clockwise around parks. I would introduce this for walking around town generally... keep to the left hand pavement. I would also propose a campaign to think like you’re driving. Don’t leave your front door unless there is enough room to do so safely... just like leaving a parking space. Look before you enter a new street, just like when driving and keep left. Don’t get distracted by your phone, think ahead and anticipate what others are doing.

Set routes through supermarkets so we’re all going in the same direction, making it easier to social distance. I have said to my partner, if I get it I’m almost certainly going to have got it shopping for food.

Why are our Government not being more proactive, even at this late stage. They tell us we can walk outside once a day but give us no decent advice on how to ensure we stay safe. A few simple measures could improve things considerably.
