A FATHER and son used their weekend in lockdown to build the Amex Stadium out of Lego.

Bobby Rumble, six, and his dad Andy, 37, spent a day and a half painstakingly recreating the Brighton and Hove Albion stadium at their home in Burgess Hill, as millions of families across the country remain in isolation to curb the spread of coronavirus.

They used 1,200 bricks and had to rely on pictures and memory because they can no longer see the Seagulls at the stadium.

Andy said: “We were rather bored in lockdown and missing the football.

“I saw they’ve got Manchester United’s Old Trafford in the Lego shop in Brighton.

“It was about £250 and I can’t imagine how much one of the Amex would have cost so we built our own from scratch.

“We just got a load of bricks, plates and hinges and put it together from looking at pictures.

“We had to remember what it looks like a bit because we haven’t been there for a while.”

Andy said he and Bobby, named after Albion legend Bobby Zamora, have been missing the beautiful game.

He said: “Like everyone else we’re missing going to the games and we’ve got a touch of cabin fever.

“But we can’t complain too much – the sun is shining, we’ve got lots of Lego and lots of time.

“Maybe we’ll start on Wembley next. The arches on the roof will be a challenge.”

Andy, an accountant, is now working from home and Bobby is still following his school timetable at home.

The family have been working out how to fit everything in and make time for fun as they adjust to lockdown life.

Andy said: “We’re just trying to keep things as normal as possible.

“Bobby gets up and does his normal school routine every day and seems to quite enjoy it.

“He needs to carry on his education, and he’s been doing home school lessons all week but we built the majority of this on Friday evening and all day Saturday.

“Hopefully this might cheer some people up who are missing the football and stuck at home.”
