THE Argus is searching for actors who starred alongside a comedy hero in a Fifties’ short film.
Playground Express was filmed on Brighton seafront in 1955 and featured future Carry On star Peter Butterworth leading a band of children against a tycoon who bans them from the Peter Pan Playground.
The group rides the Volk’s Railway up and down the seaside as they outwit the Society of Organised Fun and its child-hating leader Mr Crossington.
After discovering the film in the British Film Institute archive, Volk’s visitor centre co-ordinator Phil Lucas hopes to reunite the actors for another ride on the historic train.
“We don’t have the Peter Pan Playground anymore, but I’m sure they’d like a spot of adventure golf at Jungle Rumble once they’ve ridden the train,” he said. “As a former Volk’s driver finding out one of my comedy heroes drove the train was quite a nice surprise.”
If you or someone you know took part in the filming of Playground Express, email samuel.brooke@theargus.co.uk or call 01273 021380.
