BEACH Patrol officers were called into action late last night when they spotted a woman sitting on her own on the beach.

They approached her near the water's edge on Brighton beach and offered support.

A spokesman for Brighton Beach Patrol praised colleagues' work on social media and said: "Great work by just an hour into the shift.

"(A lone, suicidal female (was) located on the water's edge, supported and protected by the Beach Patrol."

The organisation is a registered charity which aims to protect vulnerable people on Brighton and Hove beaches.

Last month it reassured residents that, despite the UK lockdown, it would continue to provide this service.

The spokesman said: "In these difficult times we are all going through, we just wanted to make you aware that the Brighton Beach Patrol will still be out patrolling and protecting the Brighton shoreline.

"The clubs and pubs may be closed but we need to try and protect all vulnerable people."

Patrols are often carried out between 10pm and 5am.
