A MAN has put up his Christmas decorations – in April.

Alan Temperley has installed decorations – including two 6ft trees and hundreds of strobe lights – in and around his home in Mount Drive, Saltdean.

The 53-year-old, who is also keeping people entertained online as a drag queen, Mabel, said: “With so much doom and gloom around, I wanted to put a smile on people’s faces to cheer them up and now other neighbours are joining in.

“It is a bit crazy to think about Christmas lights in March but hey ho, it’s putting smiles on people’s faces and that’s the main thing.

“On Friday I was talking to my partner and I said I was a bit bored.

“And we thought ‘let’s put the decorations up on our house for a laugh’.”

They now have hundreds of lights on fake Christmas trees on the lawn and around the bungalow’s guttering.

Neighbours are also being treated to a light show on Alan’s bushes and people are using their daily exercise to go and have a look.

He said: “It was only going to be for a couple of days but people have been laughing and there’s amazement on their faces.

“People are coming around in their half-hour walk of the day and say ‘what a great idea, we love a bit of colour’.

“We are going to keep them up for quite a while, there’s some strobe lights, twinkling lights and static lights.”

Alan said he would like to add to the decorations, but is having difficulty sourcing supply.

He said: “The trouble is trying to get all the double plugs and extension leads as I can’t find them at the moment.

“I would love some outside lights, but we can’t really get anywhere to add to it as I don’t drive.

“And to be honest, they’re not really a necessity purchase.”

People across the county are doing their bit to keep others entertained.

Shaun Of The Dead stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost performed a video parody of the film urging people not to go outside.

The survival guide from the film, which included going to The Winchester pub to have a pint “and wait for all this to blow over”, was updated telling people to stay in their homes instead.

The Stig, who is best known for testing out cars on Top Gear, has filmed himself zooming around the garden on a lawn mower.
