EMERGENCY services have launched a search and rescue mission over reports of a migrant boat in the channel.
It is understood that teams of RNLI Lifeboats, Coastguards, Border Force and Police have joined the effort off the coast of Sussex.
RNLI crews from Rye Bay and Hastings have bee joined by Coastguard teams from Rye Bay, Bexhill, Langdon Batter and Hastings.
There have been unconfirmed reports of dozens of people on board a vesel spotted off Fairlight.
Meanwhile the Border Force vessel Hunter and the Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lydd, Kent are part of the search.
HM Coastguard said: "We are currently coordinating a search and rescue response to an incident off East Sussex, working with Border Force, Sussex Police and other partners.
"We have sent RNLI lifeboats from Hastings and Rye Bay, coastguard rescue teams from Rye Bay, Bexhill, Langdon Battery and Hastings, Border Force vessel Hunter and the coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lydd.
"We are committed to safeguarding life around the seas and coastal areas of this country.
"HM Coastguard is only concerned with preservation of life, rescuing those in trouble and bringing them safely back to shore, where they will be handed over to the relevant partner emergency services or authorities."
