POLICE are investigating after shoppers reported a “gang of yobs” threatening people at a supermarket.

Lewes Police say the group is believed to have travelled to the Morrison’s store in Dane Road, Seaford, from outside the area on Monday.

Witnesses said they overheard that a youth in the group had a knife.

A Lewes Police spokesman said: “Sussex Police are investigating this incident, which we believe to have involved several people who attended Morrison’s in Seaford from outside of the area. If you have any information to help us then please contact the Lewes Policing Team.”

Travelling to the supermarket from outside the area, and gathering as a group, would contravene Government social distancing guidelines.

Sussex Police said the matter was reported to the force through a third party, and no victim or suspects have been identified so far.

Yesterday evening Lewes Police officers patrolled Seaford, Newhaven and Peacehaven “responding to reports of anti social behaviour”.

The force also said it was “keeping an eye on any business premises now closed during the lockdown”.
