THE number of recorded coronavirus deaths in Sussex has risen.

NHS England data shows the number registered by each NHS trust, not including deaths outside hospitals, such as in care homes.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has recorded 121 deaths, up seven from the day before.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has recorded 40 deaths, up two.

Brighton and Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Brighton’s Royal Sussex County Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, has now recorded 60 deaths, nine more than the previous day.

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust has seven deaths, the same as the day before.

Reported deaths at Western Sussex Hospitals Foundation Trust rose to 49 from 46 in the last 24 hours.

In total there have been 277 deaths in Sussex trusts, up from 256 the previous day.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Sussex has also increased.

Public Health England yesterday said nine further people had tested positive in Brighton and Hove, taking the city’s total to 227 cases since the outbreak of the virus.

The number of confirmed cases in East Sussex rose from 359 to 373 and West Sussex cases from 459 to 487.

There have now been 1,087 cases in the county.

Nationally, the number of coronavirus cases climbed by 4,617 to 103,729. The UK death toll rose by 861 to 13,729.
