I am permanently on strike. For the last 50 years I have swept up the cigarette butts, leaves etc along my frontage, because the street cleaning vehicle which visits daily the southern end of Vicarage Lane, Rottingdean, is unable to sweep the north, pavementless side.
This is because the brushes would damage the protected walls of the two Sussex flint houses, namely Haus Allistone, and Stanley House.
CityClean seems incapable of maintaining a regular manual service, only responding for one day when I complain by letter or phone. So, I am wondering if a narrow Victorian-style pavement similar to the one in the High Street from Lloyds Bank to Park Road, tapering down to nothing at the junction, might be the solution.
My council tax is paid promptly without complaint, which at the age of 94 leaves me feeling today's mechanical era is all take and no give.
