I don't know if others have had the experience I had last Wednesday concerning traffic congestion on the A27 Brighton bypass at the exit before the Southwick Tunnel travelling west.
At about 5.30pm I came across traffic in the slower lane backedup, waiting to descend to the link road south towards Sainsbury's and the old A27 route.
I was not aware of any warning signs of queuing traffic ahead in the gloom of dusk. It was a frightening experience. I had trouble braking in time and if conditions had been wet or icy I would have piled into the back of the queue.
The police tell me there was no accident causing this queue. I got in touch with the highways authority, West Sussex County Council, and asked for immediate warning signs instructing traffic to slow down, preferably an electronic sign board.
I am still awaiting their reply.
