JUBILANT NHS workers formed a guard of honour at a hospital as the site celebrated the recovery of its first coronavirus patient.

The patient was met with rapturous applause as she was pushed through the hallways of the Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital on Tuesday in a wheelchair.

A spokesman for the Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, which operates the site, shared an image of the moment on social media.

They said: "(This was) an incredibly moving moment at Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital, as their first Covid-19 patient heads home through a corridor of applause.

"We'd like to thank all of our NHS heroes, in Bognor and beyond, for their ongoing commitment to delivering excellent care."

This has not been the only good news to come from a Sussex hospital this week, with staff at the Conquest Hospital also given a good reason to cheer as a nurse was wheeled out of critical care after a 23 day battle with coronavirus.

An irrepressible Uma Pradhan waved to colleagues and flashed a series of thumbs up from her hospital bed as she left the unit at Conquest Hospital in St Leonards on Friday afternoon.

The site erupted with cheers for the dedicated nurse as staff celebrated the ongoing recovery of "one of our own".
