Tailbacks developed after a lorry jack-knifed on a major road and hit two cars.
The articulated vehicle with foreign number plates bent in the middle and doubled up on itself on the A27 at Falmer at 4.30pm just as the end-of-week commuter traffic was flowing.
No-one was hurt in any of the three vehicles but both eastbound lanes were closed off for half an hour.
