A VITAL testing site for NHS workers is already seeing hundreds of people visiting each day.

The coronavirus testing site at The Amex Stadium was set up this week at Falmer.

Albion chief executive Paul Barber said it will be the biggest testing centre on the south coast.

It includes a drive through, where results are provided quickly to NHS staff. There is also a second section where people who are not well enough test themselves can be tested.

Mr Barber said the club has worked with Deloitte and Sodexo to set up the facilities and keep them secure while Bill’s Restaurant in Brighton provides meals to club staff working there.

He said: “The whole thing has been an incredible amount of teamwork and spirit to get it up and running for NHS frontline workers so quickly. It is just great we have that in our area.

“All of the people at Royal Sussex Hospital and NHS Trusts can now have their staff tested on a regular basis as and get them back on the frontline to do the great job they are doing.”

“It will be there for as long as it’s needed. We are not charging for the facility. It’s our gift, if you like, to try and help through this crisis. As far as we concerned, it can stay for as long as it is needed.”

The testing centre is by appointment only.
