A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after a road crash.

Emergency services were called to the A21 near the village of Mountfield shortly after 6pm on Saturday, April 25.

The woman in her 20s had to be flown to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton by the air ambulance crew.

Meanwhile a passenger in the second vehicle also suffered serious injuries and was also taken to hospital in Brighton.

Police are looking to find the driverof the second vehicle, who fled from the scene.

Roads Policing Sergeant Richard Hobbs said: “The driver of the second vehicle fled the scene before we arrived.

“We conducted an area search, assisted by the police helicopter and a dog unit, but the driver – a man – was not found.

“We are continuing to investigate lines of enquiry to establish the identity of the driver. He is described as being in his 20s, around 6’, of slim build and with dark curly hair.

“The A21 between the John Cross roundabout and the Northbridge roundabout was closed while emergency services were on scene."
