ONE person has died in a hospital operated by a Sussex healthcare trust, according to the latest coronavirus figures released this afternoon.

The NHS data refers to patients who have died in hospitals and had tested positive for coronavirus at the time of their death or where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Of all the healthcare trusts in Sussex, only Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust recorded one death today for the latest reporting period, which is between 5pm on Friday until 5pm yesterday.

The trust is responsible for hospitals supporting the Crawley and Horsham areas as well as parts of East Surrey, and the latest death brings the total toll for the trust to 202.

The total number of coronavirus deaths across the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes the Royal Sussex County Hospital, stands at 100.

The figure for East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, which includes Eastbourne District General Hospital and Bexhill Hospital, remained the same as yesterday at 64.

82 deaths have been recorded in total at hospitals run by Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which includes hospitals in Shoreham, Worthing and Chichester. The figure is unchanged from yesterday.

The figure for Sussex Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust also remained the same at 14.

The total number of coronavirus deaths across the UK in hospitals, care homes and the community now stands at 28,446, which is an increase of 315 on yesterday's figure.
