A CARAVAN was 'completely destroyed' in a blaze on disused land.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service warned people living nearby to keep their doors and windows shut as they worked to put out the fire in Yapton Road in Middleton-on-Sea.
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “We were called to reports of a fire at an address on the B2312 Yapton Road near Middleton-on-Sea shortly before 8.30pm.
"Two crews from Bognor Regis and two crews from Littlehampton were mobilised to the scene along with the Incident Command Unit from Haywards Heath.
"Once in attendance the initial crew identified that there were two separate fires on the site, one involving a large pile of rubbish, and a second involving a caravan in close proximity to a barn.
“Both fires were quickly brought under control, by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus who used two high pressure hose reels.
"The caravan was completely destroyed by fire but only caused minimum damage to the adjacent barn due to the quick firefighting actions undertaken.”
