Fun Time, Frankie's first standup gig in Brighton for more than ten years, was a quiet triumph.

Without ever hitting the heights we know he is capable of, Skinner's largely sex-orientated set was both polished and professional.

Others have called this fresh material risque and close to the bone, with jokes about paedophiles and the best places they can find children.

There were also wisecracks at the expense of the disabled and the one-legged Heather Mills McCartney.

But in the current comedy climate, still dominated by Ricky Gervais's brand of political incorrectness first aired in The Office, this is now nothing out of the ordinary and Skinner was merely continuing a recent trend.

Beginning most of his anecdotes with the now familiar "I swear this is absolutely true", which, incidentally, is quite believable, Skinner shared with the audience some of his more humorous one night stand experiences.

His confession that during his lifetime he has enjoyed numerous sexual encounters was the springboard for a series of rapid-fire gags and stories.

And it's his ability to tell a fairly lengthy story, making it appear spontaneous and as if told for the very first time, returning to references made earlier in the show, which is certainly Skinner's strong point. An encore using a ukelele to sing a song about Osama Bin Laden was also memorable.

There were none of the deep, prolonged belly laughs you might have expected but Skinner remains an A-list comic.
