BARBECUES, gatherings and a Boney-M street-party were among the activities being enjoyed by people over the weekend.

Temperatures reached 21 degrees on Friday and Saturday, as the seaside became a destination for visitors looking to enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend sun.

Sussex Police fined motorists heading into the city on the A23 on Saturday, while people were spotted having a barbecue on Hove Lawns and others were filmed dancing in the street.

HM Coast Guard Shoreham said the beaches were “very busy” on Saturday.

A spokesman said: “Busy weekend for the team, giving mutual aid patrols in Worthing and Brighton.

“Lots of people have used phrases such as ‘the end of lockdown’ but we are not there yet.

“Concerted effort and vigilance are still going to be needed from each and every one of us to avoid a second wave of infections which could lead to more deaths.

“By and large we have asked people to use their common sense and do the right thing – and, following the Prime Minister’s speech, we will still be asking the same.”
