AN ARMED robber threatened supermarket staff then stole cash from the store.

Police are currently stationed at the Tesco Express in Upper Shoreham Road, Shoreham, after the incident this morning.

A large number of force vehicles are parked nearby and the front of the store has been cordoned off as officers stand guard.

Armed units have also been posted at the scene.

Staff raised the alarm shortly before 6.30am, reporting that the robber had made threats to shop workers.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Police are responding to a report of an armed robbery in Shoreham.

"The alarm was raised at 6.26am when a man is reported to have threatened staff at Tesco's in Upper Shoreham Road and made off with money.

“Nobody was physically hurt and police, including armed officers, remain at the scene.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information about it is asked to report online or call 101 quoting serial 176 of 15/05.”

The force released an update this afternoon.

A spokesman said that a 38-year-old man from Shoreham was arrested on suspicion of robbery and remained in custody at 12.45pm.
