A PEDESTRIAN suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash with a car on the A259 last night.

The 36-year-old man had been crossing North Street in Worthing just before 8pm when there was a collision involving a black Nissan Qashqai.

The air ambulance was called to the scene, and he was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with severe head injuries.

The 40-year-old driver of the Nissan, a Worthing man, was unhurt.

The road was closed for several hours while rescue, recovery and investigation work took place. It was reopened at 1.30am.

South East Coast Ambulance Service have been contacted for an update on the man’s condition.
