A GROUP set up to support vulnerable people during the coronavirus pandemic has had a surge in volunteers and donations.
More than 650 people have signed up to deliver food, medicines and other essentials to households with Lewes Coronavirus Volunteers (LCV), including bonfire society members.
The group held their third food bank collection on Saturday and collected more than 4,000 items, which are expected to help families in need for six weeks.
Lewes Liberal Democrat councillor Oli Henman said: “LCV has captured the spirit of Lewes - so many people in our town are aware of the need to support others in these tough times, it provides a beacon of light in the darkness. Let us hope that as we eventually emerge from lockdown, this community spirit continues to enable us to build a better and fairer society.”
