A COUNCIL has appointed a new deputy leader.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Stephen Holt has now taken the role at Eastbourne Borough Council.

He has replaced Councillor Alan Shuttleworth who stood down from the role but remains Cabinet member for Housing.

Cllr Holt said: “I care deeply for Eastbourne and its future, which is why I went into politics.

“This opportunity to serve our town as the council’s deputy leader is a privilege I take very seriously.

“My thanks to Alan for everything he has done during his time as deputy.

“This is a very difficult time but, working together, I am sure we will come through successfully as a town.”

Council leader David Tutt said he was “delighted” to see his colleague take the role as his deputy.

He said: “He is already an important member of our Cabinet team and I know he will be a great asset in helping to steer our town through this challenging period.”
