HELICOPTERS have been searching the beach for missing children.

The chopper was called at 5.20pm this afternoon to search for the children, who had been reported missing on Brighton beach.

A spokeswoman for the Coastguard said: “The report came into us from Sussex Police and we sent Shoreham Coastguard Rescue Team, and HM Coastguard helicopters from Lydd and Lee-on-Solent to assist with the search.

“The children were found safe and well by a member of the family.”

Beach-goers had been making the most of the May sunshine today.

The rules were eased last Wednesday, with people now able to go for a picnic, sunbathe and relax in public places with members of their household.

Social distancing guidelines were still encouraged, with people urged to stay two metres away from those who they do not live with.
