A VENUE which usually hosts hundreds of concertgoers is now a makeshift factory producing hundreds of vital plastic visors.
Some of the biggest bands of the Sixties and Seventies have performed in the Worthing Assembly Hall, including David Bowie and Fleetwood Mac.
But due to the coronavirus pandemic the venue has now become an assembly centre for plastic visors created by Worthing resident Sam Bailey.
The volunteer only taught himself to use a 3D printer last month.
Now his team has produced more than 1,400 vital face shields for hospital and care centres in Brighton.
“We considered various options, from producing parts for ventilators to making scrubs and masks,” Sam said.
“But as the urgent need for eye protection became clear, and we saw how the 3D printing world was rising to the challenge, we jumped at the chance to join the movement and support our local NHS workers.”
Sam has four 3D printers working away at his home donated by Worthing Borough Council and community members.
But he does not see demand falling anytime soon.
“We still have thousands more orders we need to fulfil,” he said.
