A POLICE officer suffered a head injury after being attacked in a seafront road.
Sussex Police were called after concerns were raised for a man in Madiera Drive, Brighton, late on Tuesday night.
Two officers attended to check that he was alright, but when they arrived they were set upon in a violent assault. Further officers were called to the scene as the attacker’s vicious retaliation continued and a passing good Samaritan also stopped to lend a hand as the man was detained.
Following the shocking incident, one officer was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital after suffering a head injury.
Jonathon Clarke, 25, unemployed, of no fixed address, was charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker and assaulting a person occasioning them actual bodily harm and was remanded in custody.
