A THIEF twice stole champagne from a supermarket during the lockdown.

Carly Ann Smart took three bottles of Bollinger from Waitrose in Burgess Hill, and returned the next day to steal bottles of Laurent Perrier.

The 29-year-old also went to Tesco in Lottbridge Drove, Eastbourne, where she stole a Henry Hoover and a Sharp smart television.

At Brighton Magistrates’ Court she admitted the thefts, and a further charge of taking £329 worth of goods from Sainsbury’s in Broadwater, Worthing in February.

On Twitter Inspector Darren Taylor posted: “Champagne anyone? A cheeky shoplifter got caught yesterday at Waitrose, Burgess Hill trying to steal bottles of Laurent Perrier. Not only that but had stolen three bottles of Bollinger the day before.

“The team attended and dealt with her for theft. Off to magistrates’ court she goes.”

Smart, of Lower Rock Gardens, Brighton, was jailed for 56 days.
