EMERGENCY services were called to a road accident where a car crashed through a set of railings.

The single vehicle was involved but the motorist is not believed to have been hurt.

The crash happened at about 8pm in Old Shoreham Road near the junction with Stapley Road, Hove.

Police and the fire brigade were called.

One witness said: "I was watching television when I heard this almighty crash and bang outside.

"I looked out of the kitchen window and the car had gone through the railings and a telephone box.

"The car looks like it has been completely destroyed, the front is all crunched in."

The fire engine from Hove left the scene and said nodoby had to be cut free from the wreckage.

The police said: "We were called to reports that a single vehicle had left the carriageway in Old Shoreham Road and collided into a wall.

"The driver was not injured and the car sustained minor damage."

It is understood that officers currently remain with the driver.
