THE hunt is on for a machete-wielding robber who raided a supermarket.

The balaclava-clad man brandished the weapon as he stole cash from the tills at the Co-op store in The Square, Westbourne, on Sunday.

The police helicopter was called to help ground units in the search for the suspect following the incident at 6.25pm.

Sussex Police have now launched an appeal in a further attempt to track him down.

The force has released a CCTV image of the robbery, as well as a description of the suspect.

A spokesman said the man had been “described as white, 6ft tall and slim”.

The suspect is also believed to have a blond moustache and beard.

The force spokesman said: “He was wearing a balaclava, a khaki green Adidas cap and turquoise green medical gloves.

“He was wearing a zip-up hooded jumper with drawstrings, described as beige in colour from the chest upwards and a khaki green colour below, with a three inch wide beige stripe down each sleeve. He was also wearing dark grey Adidas tracksuit trousers with three black stripes down each leg.

“Officers would like to hear from anyone who recognises the man, or from anyone who may have seen any suspicious behaviour in the area at the time.

“They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV or dash cam footage from the area.”

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact police online or call 101 quoting serial 479 of 25/05.”
