WE ARE told that construction will lead us out of recession and if Brighton and Hove are anything to go by, they will be correct.
Just look at all the big jobs being built in the city. The biggest has been in Circus Street, which I understand is nearly finished.
Another big development is taking place in Edward Street.
Over in Lewes Road, building is taking place by the Preston Barracks. The main part of the barracks is to stay. Perhaps the building could be used as offices.
Then over to London Road, the former Co-op and Boots stores have been pulled down.
Let’s be honest, it was an awful building. It is to be replaced by a nice looking five storey block for students.
There will be two shops at the bottom, which could be a nice new Co-op and a Boots store.
Just around the corner in Oxford Street, they are going to build a medical centre, part of which will be on the land which was Oxford Court.
Oxford Court was all slums and was pulled down in the early 1930s.
So as we can see, there is much to look forward to for what will be a great future for a great city.
