THE Government is proposing to fine drivers for driving in cycle lanes, so cyclists should be fined for cycling in the road when there are adjacent cycle lanes.
If they want these concessions they should be treated exactly the same as motorists.
They should carry third party insurance, have a recognisable number plate, face conviction for jumping red lights, riding on pavements, having no lights, not wearing a safety a helmet.
The list could go on. Suffice to say make them subject to all the same rules as motorists including passing a proficiency test and a cycle MoT.
With some cycles costing as much as a good second hand car this should not be a problem.
Remember the saying “what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander”.
