DRIVERS have been queueing to get onto one of the McDonald's car parks in Worcester.

A video sent to the Worcester News by Andrew Kelsall shows the long queues.

On Twitter, Mr Kelsall said: "Ridiculous scenes as cars are queuing all around the carpark and beyond for the McDonald's drive-through at Blackpole.

"It would be quicker for them to go home and make their own meal. Are they so desperate to eat junk?"

There were similar scenes in Malvern as more drivers were seen queueing to get their food.

A video shared on social media shows the line of cars and vans waiting on the Malvern Retail Park to get their food.

The fast food chain announced its branches in Worcester, Malvern and Evesham had re-opened for drive-thru earlier today.

The chain says a number of changes to their restaurants have been introduced, for staff working in the store and when customers arrive, including social distancing introduced in the kitchens and service areas, perspex screens and floor markings in specific areas in the restaurant and kitchen, and perspex screens at drive-thru windows with employees wearing protective equipment.

A McDonald's spokesman said: "We are glad to be back but it will look a little different and may take a little longer, so please bear with us.

"We have fewer employees in our kitchens to enable our teams to social distance and work safely.

"We will have a limited menu (no breakfast or Shakes for now) and will open for reduced hours (11am-10pm).

"We encourage you to use contactless payment methods and cap your spend at £25.

"For those visiting our Drive Thrus, you can browse the menu, order and pay ahead using the My McDonald’s App - we’ll start preparing your order when you’re near the restaurant.

"We’re delighted to be returning to communities across the UK and Ireland, thank you for your continued support and patience. We look forward to seeing you soon."
