MORE than a third of people have undertaken more DIY during lockdown – and 50 per cent have failed at a practical task, a survey found.
Research by shelving and storage specialist Bigdug has revealed a spike in DIY disasters during lockdown.
More than 35 per cent of Brighton residents have been doing more DIY than usual, with painting walls and garden furniture and repairing fixtures at the top of to-do lists.
Half of those surveyed had at least one failed project and almost ten per cent injured themselves during a DIY task, with sprained ankles as the most common injury above cuts, dropping heavy items on feet and broken bones.
A quarter of those who had an accident said they would normally have gone to hospital with their injury but chose not to because of the coronavirus pandemic.
However, almost a quarter of those polled said DIY has been “keeping them sane” during the lockdown.
It comes after Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett admitted yesterday that she had injuring herself with a chainsaw during a DIY task at her manor in Crowborough.
The Oscar-winning star said: “It sounds very very exciting, but it wasn’t.
“Apart from the little nick to my head I’m fine.”
