THERE has been one further death of a coronavirus patient confirmed at a Sussex hospital in the latest figures from Public Health England.

The casualty was the 110th recorded at sites run by the Western Sussex Hospitals Foundation Trust, which operates Worthing Hospital, St Richards Hospital in Chichester and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham.

The figures for the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (136) East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (82) Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (247) and Sussex Community Foundation Trust (17) all remained the same.

There have now been 592 deaths confirmed by Sussex hospital trusts since the outbreak of coronavirus in the UK.

This figure does not include patients who died in other areas such as care homes.

The number of cases of coronavirus rose across all areas of Sussex.

The greatest increase was seen in Brighton and Hove, where the overall number of positive tests rose from 457 to 464.

The figure for East Sussex climbed from 729 to 732 while the West Sussex figure reached 1,335 - an increase of one.

There have now been 2,531 cases of coronavirus confirmed in the county.

Nationally, there have been 5,438,712 coronavirus tests issued with 284,868 positive results.

As of 5pm yesterday, Public Health England said there had been 40,465 deaths of patients who had contracted coronavirus - a rise of 204 from the day before.
