A CONSERVATIVE MP says she is saddened by the closure of Boris Johnson’s old private school.

Ashdown House Preparatory School will shut at the end of the academic year due to the financial strain of coronavirus.

The Prime Minister and his sister Rachel Johnson both attended the school, which has been open for nearly 180 years.

Nus Ghani, Tory MP for Wealden, said: “It is always sad to see a good local school close, especially one with such a long and rich local history.

“The challenges of managing Covid-19 has put a strain on a number of businesses including the private school sector and the closure of Ashdown House Preparatory School will have an added impact on uncertainty for local parents”.

The school was projected to be less than a third full from September, following a drop in the number of international boarding pupils and fewer students taking up their places for the next academic year.
