A WOMAN who conned a dying patient by stealing a bank card must pay compensation.
Ann Hughes fleeced victim Vaughan Lilley by stealing his bank card and using it more than 100 times.
At Brighton Magistrates’ Court the 46-year-old admitted fraud and theft, but was spared an immediate jail term.
Hughes, of Limbrick Lane, Goring, took more than £1,000 and was ordered to repay it. Court documents said she “abused the trust” of a “vulnerable victim, a dying man”.
She was ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work and was given a 16-week suspended prison sentence.
The court noted that she has a good chance of being rehabilitated and is a carer for her husband.
